Installing a different version of Chrome OS

This article aims at showing users how to wipe their current OS version, and update to supported stable versions of Chrome OS.

In order to confirm what version of Chrome your device is on, press ALT + V on the login screen. The version will appear in the top right hand corner of your screen.

Prerequisites:

- Enterprise enrolment credentials for your CDM
- USB stick 4GB+

The Process:

1. Download our current, stable version of Chrome OS onto a USB. Please follow this link to review the latest version and download the appropriate build for your device.

Or, please contact our support team to request an OS image file.

2. Download Chrome Recovery Tool from the Chrome Web Store.

3. Launch the Chrome Recovery Tool, select the settings icon and then select 'use local image'.

• Select "Use Local Image" then select the location of the file downloaded in step 1.

• Insert USB (must have larger than 4gb storage space). Proceed by selecting the drop down and selecting your USB.

 

• From here chrome recovery tool will set up your recovery device.

4. Perform hard restart. In order to do so, power down the device. When powering the device again, place a paper clip in the hole next to the Kensington lock. You should be able to feel a small tactile button. Please see image below for more details 

5. You should see the following screen 

6. Insert the usb from step 1, which contains chromeOS for your device. Your device will now restart and begin system recovery.

• If the device is having trouble reading the USB image, please try using a different USB from a different manufacturer.

7. When system recovery has completed, remove USB. Your device will restart.


8. You need to then Enrol your device into a CDM account.
