All Chrome OS devices need to be enrolled into a CDM account before they can be added to a meldCX account. This is called Enterprise Enrolment.
The meldCX Agent (Chrome app in kiosk mode) is pushed to the device from the CDM.
A device can only been enrolled in a single CDM Organisation Unit (OU) at a time. To move a device to a new CDM OU you'll need to follow Google's deprovision & re-enroll process.
1. Get your Enrolment Credentials ready
meldCX Managed CDM
You will have been provided with credentials (username & password) during the process of creating your meldCX account. If you don't have them, please contact your sales rep or account manager.
Self-hosted CDM
You will have created credentials when creating the OU in your CDM. Please ensure your CDM OU is configured to run meldCX.
2. Prepare your environment
2.1) Get your network ready for meldCX and connect your device.
2.2) Please confirm what version of Chrome OS the device is running by powering on the device and pressing ALT + V on the login screen. The version will appear in the top right hand corner.
Please refer to this article for our current approved version of Chrome OS.
If your device is running this version, please continue to step 3. If not, please update the version of Chrome OS as specified here.
3. Enrol the device
At this stage, the device will boot-up and you will be presented with the "Welcome" screen.
Side note: Chrome OS has been known to run an OS update download & install in the background when there is no kiosk app installed so it is important to Enterprise Enrol the device as quickly as possible to avoid this. If Chrome OS completes a background update, it's possible the device is now running a version of Chrome OS that is not supported by meldCX.
Before continuing, please press ALT + V and confirm the version of Chrome OS that was installed on your device. If it is, please continue through the prompts until you reach an Enterprise Enrolment screen or a user sign in screen.
3.1a) If the device was wiped - You will be prompted to reenroll it into it's previously enrolled CDM, or in some cases the device may reenroll itself depending on the CDM settings.
3.1b) If this is a brand new or deprovisioned device - You will be taken to a user sign in screen, please find and press the button that says "More settings" [1], and then press "Enterprise Enrolment" [2]
Ensure the screen says "Enterprise Enrolment" as per the below image before entering any credentials.
If you accidentally login to user mode, you'll have to wipe the device again
3.2) Enrol the device into the CDM with the provided details.
Once successfully logged in, give it a minute and the system will show up with a meldCX agentM screen. Please note the Device Name as this is required to enrol the device through the meldCX cloud console.
As a meldCX customer, you get the benefit of our team testing the meldCX agent and a wide variety of test cases, against new Chrome OS versions.
