General FAQ
Q: Can Viana be customised for my business requirements?
We have a range of ready-to-go Viana modules that you can utilise to churn out your use cases quickly. Ready-to-go means they are available to set up with minimal configuration required.
Some examples include:
- Anonymous Audience Measurement
- Signage Content Effectiveness (COEFFE)
- Traffic Measurement (TRAM)
- Licence Plate Recognition
- Parking Management
- People Counting
- Content at the Right Opportunity
- Zone Engagement
We also do Custom CV for highly specialised use cases. Please get in touch with us to discuss.
Q: How are Viana licenses provisioned?
Licenses are provisioned per sensor (camera).
We can also do per site pricing depending on your use case. Please get in touch with us for more information.
Q: Can Viana be hosted on my own cloud instance?
Yes, but it may incur more cost to support a separate cloud instance.
Q: What happens to the data when the device goes offline?
When the device has no internet connection, the data will be stored locally in the device and will be transmitted to the server once the device is back online.
Q: Where can I report a bug?
You can email us at viana@meldcx.com.
Hardware Requirements
Q: Are there any hardware requirements for Viana? Can Viana sit on my own hardware device?
For Viana Lite, you can connect directly to your RTSP camera.
For Viana Standard, Premium, and Enterprise, you would need an additional edge device that meets the recommended system requirements, as outlined below. Viana Custom use cases may require additional computing power.
| Recommended | |
| Processor | 10th Generation Intel Core™ i7 Processor or higher |
| Graphics | Intel UHD / Iris Plus Graphics |
| RAM | 16GB or higher |
| Disk Space | 250GB SSD or higher |
| OS | Ubuntu 22.04 LTS |
| Supported Sensors |
Up to two (2) sensors only [USB and/or IP Camera] |
Q: What are the supported camera types for Viana?
Viana will support USB cameras, or IP cameras that are compliant to RTSP or Onvif feature. Viana is also able to connect to machine vision cameras that support GenIcam standard (The Generic Interface for Cameras)
Minimum Specs for the camera:
IP Camera: 1080p, h.254/h.265, RTSP/ONVIF capable
USB Camera: 1080p, fixed-focus, WDR, 90-120 degree FOV
Q: Will Viana work with analogue cameras?
It will work as long as its DVR/NVR supports RTSP.
Q: Can we run Viana directly into the camera without an edge device?
This is possible and is currently supported using Cisco Meraki MV Gen 3 cameras. We utilize the built-in AI capability of the camera to do the detection
Viana Set Up
Q. How many use cases can I run on the recommended Edge Device?
Using an Intel i7 device, it will be able to run on a single service applet, on 1x IP camera or 2x USB cameras
Q: Who will do the installation?
Preferably, partners or the end customer will do the installation. We will provide set up guidance throughout the process to ensure smooth deployment. We can also provide installation services if required (via third party).
Q: What happens if a device is transferred to another site?
Once a device is tagged to be reassigned, all data will remain at the site up to the point that the device has stopped tracking. Once the device is activated on a new site, all new data will be stored at the new site.
Q: I have my camera, how will I set it up?
We have the recommended camera placement, height, and distance for every use case.
Q: I do not have a camera connected to my device. Can I still install Viana?
Yes. Viana can still be installed provided your device meets the minimum system requirements and is connected to the internet during installation.
- After installation, Viana Edge will still work but it will not detect and capture any data
- Once a camera is available, you will need to add the camera, do the initial configuration and then Viana will start capturing data
Q: What will happen if my IP camera will go offline?
If the camera goes offline, the sensor status in the Viana Portal will show that your camera is offline. Once the connection is restored, it will automatically detect it and Viana will connect to the camera.
Q: Do I need a CMS with my Viana Subscription?
If you are referring to CMS with digital signage, then Audience Measurement runs independently of your CMS and therefore no integration is needed.
However, if you would like to run a Content Effectiveness report or trigger dynamic content (via our Content at the Right Opportunity module), then we would need to tap your CMS to correlate content playing with Viana's audience measurement.
Q: How does Viana get data from my CMS?
This is more relevant for the Content Effectiveness and Content at the Right Opportunity use cases, where we correlate CMS data (specifically proof of play data) with our Viana data. Ideally, we integrate your existing CMS and extract your proof of play data (via API), and Viana's data warehouse will do the rest.
Dashboard User Roles
Q: How do I automatically create users for my team members?
This will be managed in the portal by an admin account. For now, this is non-functional, and requests will be lodged manually to viana@meldcx.com.
Q: What are the different user roles?
Admin, Account Manager, Site Manager, and Guest user roles. We will also develop a feature that will allow admin users to create a personalised user. Currently, we have two types of users, Admin and Staff.
Q: How do I restrict data to be shown to a specific role?
Specific roles are restricted to their assigned sites and the data within those sites using Viana's Role-Based Access Control.
Q: How do I restrict data to be shown to a specific site?
Specific sites are only tracking data from devices that are allocated to those sites.
Data Privacy & Compliance
Q: What’s meldCX’s stance on data privacy?
Data Privacy is at the very core of everything we do at meldCX showcased by our certification with Trust Arc. Trust Arc is an independent 3rd Party Agency based in California that has verified that the way meldCX stores, captures and processes data is in line with global regulatory standards such as GDPR and ISO 27001. Our blog about how data is collated and presented is linked here.
Q: Who can access the CCTV video footage?
Only the end customer or persons approved by the account admin can access the CCTV footage.
Q: Are we sending the video stream into the cloud?
No. All video streams remain locally in the camera and meldCX will only receive data files (MQTT) in the Viana Cloud.
Q: Who can access the analytics dashboard?
Only the end customer and select meldCX team members have access to the analytics dashboard. However, all data is anonymised and non-personal identifiable (PII) which means that this cannot be identified. These analytics will only be used for customer experience improvement purposes only.
Q: What sort of non-personal identifiable (PII) data is collected?
Viana does not take nor keep unique personal records, or any sensitive or personal data, especially in the context of personal identifiable information (PII). All data taken is tokenised at the edge or camera level, and the resulting data eliminates any association with the object being described, ensuring that it remains anonymous.
Depending on the specific use case, these are the sorts of data that we are collecting;
- Track ID - ID assigned to a single person per sensor
- Person Coordinates - Coordinates (x,y) of where the person is standing
- Feet Coordinates - Person coordinates (x,y) on a scene/FOV, based on projected feet position
- Path Coordinates - Coordinates (x,y) of where the person is standing in the store’s floor plan
- Proximity - The distance of the person from the destination
- Visit Duration - Amount of time the person has stayed within t
