When connecting a printer to you device you first need to establish what type of connections it has available. Generally most receipt printers will support Serial and USB as standard. These are currently the only two options supported by meldCX. Please also check to see which option is supported by your application.
Rear of Printer: Ports from left to right.
Power (IEC C14), Serial (DB25 Female), USB (Type B), Cash Drawer Port (RJ11)
Serial
Firstly you will need a RJ50 to DB9 cable that will plug into your Chromebase or Chromebox.
You can find these on the aopen.com website here or purchase from your local distributor.
Next you will need to obtain a Null Modem cable to connect your printer to your Chrome Device. In a Null Modem cable the Rx and Tx pins are crossed over and this is what enables it to talk to the printer, without this cable you printer will not be able to communicate to your Chrome device.
In the case above you will need to get a DB25 Male (Opposite to D25 Female connection on Printer) to DB9 Female (Opposite to DB9 Male on the above connector) null modem cable. Some printers come with a DB9 Male or Female interface on the rear of the printer also, so you will just need to adjust the type of cable accordingly.
You can find these cable at your local computer store, cable wholesaler or local distributor. See examples below.
USB
Connecting via USB is a little easier as the Chromebase and the Chromebox have a number of USB ports available on the device. You will simply need to obtain USB cable to plug your printer into your Chrome device. In most cases you will need a USB type A to USB type B cable, which will commonly come with your new printer.
You can find these cable at your local computer store, cable wholesaler or local distributor. See examples below.
Setup
Lastly you will need to refer to the setup guide of your application to successfully get it talking to the printer.
